There's a whole lot of crap going around, known in most circles as hero worship. Well this is simply wrong, and I will tell you a little why, though its bloody obvious.
You meet someone and he seems smart. So you listen to his advice. You feel a sort of kinship for them, and your emotions take over and you lose your rationality (if you ever actually had any to begin with). Soon you find yourself listening to this person.
Bravo, for you have met the buddha on the road.
This buddha he may preach reality cracking, he may preach religion, he may preach free software, he may preach software simplicity, he may preach gravity or kinship with the homeless, but he is the embodiment of the buddha and must meet your blade.
Sharpen that blade on the rock that you carry, it weighs you down, but you must bend on a single knee and sharpen, sharpen it good, feel that edge in your steamship, let it power you as 18th century explorers of the Nile.
A single stroke is all it takes, a realization as clear as your blade, sharpened and bloodied from the buddha, wipe it down and feel that wholesomeness envelop your sole. Not trout.
Wince not, for you are free.
