Firstly, there is no pursuit of knowledge. These days it is a white-collar passport to a job, to social standing, a nod to public opinion (opium), and a hop skip and jump away to comfort.
Secondly, there is no time to learn the material (if it is valid in the first place) since the courses are compressed into such edible chunks that leave you bewildered. The subject matter is meant not to be analyzed, but to be accepted. The olden days of learning are over, if they ever existed at all (i highly doubt it).
Thirdly, absolute acceptance is rewarded. Listen to your masters and do what you are told and you will be rewarded in the afterlife. Any sort of allowable questioning is trite and superficial, any depth of understanding and querying is rewarded with a caning, an intellectual army boot.
In conclusion there is absolutely no new thing under the sun, as the old one said, this is the way it has always been, and I do not seek a brighter day, I do not reach for a far a way star, I reach into the pit and throw myself into it, its far better to be master of hell than to be a slave in heaven.
